Solar Smart LLC are solar project originators, developers and builders of commercial community solar projects that range in size from 1 MW to 5 MW. Community solar or “roofless” solar projects work in cooperation with local Utilities to provide the electrical needs of 300-400 homes for every 1 Mega Watt of solar system constructed.

Solar Smart LLC provides site acquisition services to National solar contractors (EPC’s), developers, investors and Utilities interested in identifying greenfield sites that have been evaluated by Solar Smart from a solar land-use, interconnection and permitting due diligence perspective. Solar Smart applies over 50 proprietary “performance metrics” to each property considered for a potential Solar Smart installation.

These metrics include:

  • architectsUtility Considerations – interconnection point, distance to power, upgrading cost, line capacity, zone caps, Utility’s solar interest/cooperation, pre-application results
  • Environmental – habitat and wetlands issues, wooded or field, cost of site work, topographical considerations, soil test
  • Zoning and Permitting – requirements for the local remitting authority to build solar site, cost of meeting permitting or zoning requirements, success or failure of other recent solar installations and attached requirements
  • Site Location – consideration of solar interest evidenced by recent construction in the same area, interest of abutting land owners, local state and federal financial incentives, shading issues, boundaries
  • Property owner – has expressed an interest in constructing solar on the property and entering into a long-term lease arrangement with Solar Smart
